Death Gulch

One of my winter treks took me near Death Gulch. 

Specimen Ridge petrified tree trunk.  During volcanic eruptions 50 million years ago, trees were engulfed with volcanic ash and mud-flows.  This cycle of being buried in volcanic ash and mudflows repeated dozens of times.  

An area of micro climate created by a thermal spring.
