Calculate the Distance from a Black Hole at which the Escape Velocity Equals the Speed of Light
This is a simplified Newtonian derivation of the Schwarzschild radius.
It does not incorporate Relativistic notions or space-time curvature.
But I find it remarkable that this derivation results in the same radius.
In 1783 John Michell was the first to conceive of an object where the escape velocity is greater than the speed of light.
In 1796 Pierre-Simon Laplace explicitly stated the formula for escape velocity and the radius for a dark star.
